As the Founder and Director of Teaching Empathy Inc., David Levine has been teaching, inspiring, and motivating teachers to re-discover the joy they once felt when they entered the teaching profession. The daily stressors that teachers feel and the frustration they live with many days of the school year will not change unless they take action to change how they respond to the new reality of school reform. It is imperative for all educators (teachers, administrators and support personnel), to embrace the potential to teach pro-social skills while building a classroom community where bullying is minimized within the systems changes being implemented. Educators do not want or need a new curriculum or complicated program, but instead are looking for a new consciousness of how to create caring and compassionate schools. It is time to return to the passion teachers once felt when they went into the educational field by reframing what they do every day (making a difference in the lives of their students), and how they do it (by creating caring and compassionate classrooms and schools). David ‘s work on teaching empathy as a bully prevention strategy has been featured in the New York Times, National Public Radio, and WABC news in New York City. David’s books include Teaching Empathy, Building Classroom Communities and The School of Belonging Plan Book. His recordings include Dance of a Child's Dreams (Parent's Choice Gold Award Winner), and the Bully Tapes. After teaching elementary and middle school, he served as chief trainer for the U.S. Department of Education’s Northeast Regional Center for Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Today, David designs, facilitates, and presents workshops and professional development experiences nationally to teachers, administrators, and students.
