Kaitlin Williams, MPH, RD, LD Kaitlin received a Masters of Public Health in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. She completed her dietetic internship rotations at WIC, Anne Arundel Medical Center, and Rebecca Bitzer & Associates. Kaitlin grew up in the home of a chef and quickly developed a love for cooking. She has a passion for teaching others how to plan and prepare healthy, home-cooked meals. Kaitlin works with individuals as well as groups and businesses. I've been a nurse for more than twenty years, and have cared for patients in settings from the hospital to the home. Though it certainly isn't easy to help patients manage chronic diseases, I find that the challenges of doing so endlessly interesting, and a great learning process for me. Diabetes management is a special interest of mine, as this is a disease with complications that can manifest themselves in virtually any part of the body. I believe that a holistic approach to managing diabetes is necessary to preventing complications. While there are excellent medications and skilled healthcare professionals, the patients who takes an active role in his/her own care plays an equally important part in preventing and delaying complications of the disease. Searching the internet for information about diabetes can yield thousands of links with instructions for patients, and not all of this is correct. Providing accurate knowledge about diabetes management is needed for patients to understand more about how to care for themselves. My goal as a healthcare professional is to help in disseminating evidence-based information from credible sources to the patients who need to hear, and hopefully benefit, from the knowledge. I earned a DNP from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where I am a member of the faculty for the College of Nursing. I maintain a private practice in Decatur, Alabama, and am certified in Advanced Diabetes Management.
